A man’s claim that he only went to vote because his girlfriend threatened to dump him if he didn’t support Democrat Kamala Harris has taken the internet by storm.
In a trending segment on CNN, Brian Flores confessed he had no plans to participate in the razor-thin election until his girlfriend’s ultimatum prompted a change of heart. Brian, who voted in Charlotte, North Carolina, informed the CNN journalist that he cast his vote for Harris.
The reporter probed, “And tell me how you came to this decision,” to which Brian responded: “So, I wasn’t going to vote at all until my girlfriend was blowing up my phone telling me to go vote.”
“And if I didn’t, she was going to break up with me. So, now I’m here.”
However, Brian soon backtracked, revealing his girlfriend hadn’t actually threatened to end things but had urged him to vote for Harris. “I made that up, she didn’t say that but it’s funny to say that.”, reports the Mirror.
When the reporter followed up with, “So, she asked you to vote for Harris? ” Brian confirmed: “She did.”
Brian also disclosed that he had voted for Joe Biden in the 2020 Presidential Election but had intended to skip the current one. “I was going to stay home, eat some chips (crisps) or something,” he said.
Wrapping up, Brian mentioned he ended up voting after work and endured a two-hour wait to do so, a detail the reporter highlighted as unusual given that many voters reported a swift five-minute process.
The viral clip has quickly amassed over 1.8 million views and raked in roughly 36,000 likes, causing quite the stir on social media. Brian’s situation has been met with laughter and approval from the digital crowd.
A Twitter user commented: “I said this was happening everywhere and no one was talking about it. Happy wife happy life.”
While another remarked: “She’s a good woman, he better not lose her.”
An amused third party chipped in saying: “Mr Brian Flores telling CNN that he only voted because his girlfriend made him and that he would rather have sat at home and eaten chips is absolutely peak young millennial.”
However, some viewers were quick to call out Brian, underscoring his admission on national television as false bragging rather than truth-telling.
Having cast his vote in North Carolina a key battleground among the seven swing states the election drama unfolds. Republican Donald Trump is strategizing to overturn Biden’s previous gains in an effort to prevent Kamala Harris from becoming the first female president to step foot in the White House.
